Plans to establish a float glass production facility in Ukraine have been announced. Media reports mention two investment projects from the development company City One Development and the investment holding EFI Group. The OKNA.ua editorial team reached out to representatives of the companies for confirmation, but no responses were received as of the time of publication.
In 2021, the development company City One Development declared its intention to build a float glass factory in Berezan. At that time, the company’s founder and president, Valeriy Kodetskyi, noted that the factory could potentially meet up to 30% of the domestic construction market demand.
EFI Group plans to build a facility for producing float glass and coated glass. According to the company, the NovaSklo factory will feature two production lines with a stated output of 800 gross tons of glass per day (675 tons of net product).
The construction of the EFI Group glass factory appears most likely. The holding’s owner, Ihor Liski, is actively promoting the project. The NovaSklo factory was presented at the international URC2024 conference in Berlin this summer and discussed at the 10th Kyiv International Economic Forum in the fall.
According to Andrii Lesio, founder and CEO of OKNA.ua:
“Since the closure of the Lysychansk glass factory ‘Proletariy’ in Luhansk Oblast in 2014, float glass has not been produced in Ukraine. Before the full-scale invasion, glass was primarily imported from Russia and Belarus. The lack of predictable and stable conditions in the energy market was one of the key barriers to domestic glass production, despite significant demand.”
