Edgetech, part of Quanex, has announced that at Fensterbau Frontale 2026 it will present a double-chamber insulating glass unit with an ultra-thin centre pane (Skinny Triples or Dünnglas-ISO).

These units feature a thin (1 mm or 1.5 mm) middle pane. They deliver thermal insulation comparable to standard double-chamber insulating glass units, while weighing significantly less. The weight of the unit is reduced by more than 40 per cent compared to conventional double-chamber insulating glass units. The “thin” units are compatible with 70 mm profile systems.

Tony Palmer, Head of Sales at Edgetech, noted that together with Forel the company has demonstrated the feasibility of manufacturing thin double-chamber insulating glass units on existing automated lines. Manufacturers can operate without costly investments while maintaining high precision and quality.

Quanex partnered with Forel in Italy to jointly refine the positioning of the thin centre pane within the sealed unit. The flexible Super Spacer® warm edge spacer enables installation of the middle pane with accuracy down to fractions of a millimetre. According to the company, this preserves structural integrity and thermal performance even with a glass thickness of 1 mm.

At its stand, Edgetech will also demonstrate robotic spacer application for large formats and coloured design options.

The joint stand will also feature the brands Liniar (profile systems) and Schlegel (seals), which are part of the Quanex group. Together, they will present a comprehensive approach to improving the energy efficiency and durability of modern windows and façades.
