The Ukrainian Manufacturers of Transparent Structures (UMTS), together with the EdUP project, held the training “Mentoring at the enterprise”. The event took place on 27 April 2026 at the WindowED Academy training and practical centre based at the Kyiv Professional College of Civil Construction.
The training is part of the WindowED programme. It is a national project aimed at training personnel for the transparent structures sector. The purpose of the training is to equip company specialists to act as mentors for trainees who will undertake practical training directly at production facilities or company sites.
Participants of the training covered several topics, including the role of a mentor, organisation of mentoring at an enterprise, trainee motivation, communication and active listening. They also explored how to provide feedback and overcome resistance to change. Particular attention was paid to interaction between experienced specialists and young people who are just starting their careers in the profession.
For the Association, it is important that training does not end solely at the centre. Comprehensive preparation of future installers of window and door systems, as well as specialists in transparent façades, is only possible with close cooperation between educational institutions and business. It is enterprises that provide trainees with real experience, an understanding of quality standards and production culture.
Earlier, the first training and practical centre for window and door installers in Ukraine was opened in Kyiv — it became the venue for this training.
A mentor at an enterprise is not only a specialist who demonstrates how to perform tasks. It is a person who transfers professional culture and quality standards.
