The dormakaba Group, one of the global leaders in access control systems, has unveiled EasyAssist. It is the company's first door operator that can be configured via a smartphone app. dormakaba announced the launch on its website.
The new integrated control mechanism allows the door operator to be mounted directly onto the door leaf. This enables flexible installation of EasyAssist and makes it suitable for improving accessibility throughout buildings.
According to the company, the product has been developed in response to Germany's demographic trends. The country's average age continues to rise. In 2000, people aged over 67 accounted for around 14% of the population. By 2020, this figure had exceeded 19%, and forecasts suggest it will approach 25% by 2040. This trend is also affecting building infrastructure.
Meanwhile, according to forecasts by Ukraine's Ministry of Social Policy, around 30% of the country's population will be over the age of 60 by 2050. It should also be taken into account that the number of people with disabilities has increased significantly during the full-scale war.
"We are seeing that Germany's ageing population is having an increasing impact on decisions made during the construction and refurbishment of buildings. More and more customers are turning to dormakaba for access control systems that also help make interior spaces accessible," says Simon Knieper, Head of Product Management at dormakaba Germany.
The entrance doors of public buildings are often already equipped with automatic operators. However, internal and secondary doors usually remain without automation. As a result, accessibility is interrupted, reducing people's ability to move independently throughout a building.
EasyAssist has been developed to solve precisely this problem. Installers can fit and commission the device in just a few simple steps. The low-energy door closer is particularly well suited to care homes and healthcare facilities. Its smooth and consistent door movement reduces barriers for people with slower reactions. Automatic door operation is also essential for the growing number of cleaning and logistics robots.
EasyAssist can be installed in all four mounting positions, making it compatible with a wide variety of door types. The new design allows the power supply unit to be integrated into the guide rail. This enables the door operator to be mounted directly onto the door leaf for the first time.
EasyAssist offers several operating modes:
