On 28 September, Vikna-Style opened an upgraded training and practical classroom at the Chernivtsi Vocational Construction Lyceum. The Ukrainian Manufacturers of Transparent Structures (UMTS) and the company itself reported the opening. The classroom will be used to train assemblers and installers of window and door systems.
Students will study the design of profile systems, insulating glass units (IGUs) and hardware. They will learn how to assemble, install and service products. Training will take place using real-life samples of the type used by manufacturers and installation teams.
The company equipped the classroom with structures for practical installation training. Its specialists also prepared information boards for the theoretical part of the course. WDS, a partner brand, also contributed to the creation of the classroom.
The company selected five types of structures for the classroom. They cover the types of products installers encounter on the market. These include a sliding system, a double-leaf door with a flying mullion (a central section at the junction of the leaves), a balcony door-and-window unit, a double-sash window with a toplight above, and a door. The company says there is no comparable training classroom in western Ukraine.
UMTS Executive Director Mykhailo Orlenko explained why the Association supports such projects. “We set the direction, and Association members take it forward and implement it in their regions,” he said. According to him, the industry is already facing a shortage of skilled workers. “A window performs well when it has been manufactured to a high standard and installed correctly. The industry is already short of qualified assemblers, installers and service technicians. They need to be trained at vocational lyceums and colleges, together with manufacturers,” Orlenko emphasised.
Mr Orlenko also invited window manufacturers and vocational education institutions to create similar training facilities in other regions.
In spring 2026, UMTS opened the WindowED Academy training and practical centre in Kyiv. It operates at the Kyiv Vocational College of Civil Engineering. The centre trains installers of window and door systems, as well as specialists in the installation of ventilated façades and transparent structures.
In Kyiv and Chernivtsi, students will be trained under a dual education model that includes practical training at manufacturing companies.
