Guardian Glass will present its Guardian BPC temporary protective coating at glasstec 2026. The trade fair will take place from 20 to 23 October in Düsseldorf, Germany. This was announced by Guardian Glass.

Guardian BPC protects heat-treatable Guardian Sun and ClimaGuard glass during transport and processing. The company says the coating helps glass processors improve efficiency, reduce waste and increase the yield of usable products.

Magnetron coatings consist of layers of metal oxides. They give glass energy-efficient properties. However, during transport, cutting, edge deletion and toughening, such coatings can become scratched or marked. Guardian BPC reduces the risk of these defects.

The coating reduces the toughening cycle time by approximately 12%. The result depends on the glass thickness and furnace type.

Edge deletion of the coating is carried out in the same way as for conventional coated glass. It takes the same amount of time as processing glass without the protective coating. No special equipment or additional steps are required. During cutting and edge deletion, Guardian BPC produces little or no dust or odour.

In addition to Guardian BPC, the company will showcase other products:
- Guardian SunGuard: new additions to its double- and triple-silver coated glass range. The company aims to demonstrate the availability of these products across different regions.
- Guardian NEXA: a range of glass with a lower carbon footprint. It helps projects achieve their environmental goals.
- Guardian Bird1st: bird-friendly glass. The range includes Bird1st MIRAGE, a technology that the company plans to launch in 2027.
- Guardian ViewBoost and Guardian PureSight: glass that reduces unwanted reflections in architectural projects and improves transparency.

Guardian Glass Executive Vice President of Global Commercial Guus Boekhoudt explained the company’s approach. “Today’s projects require more than high-performance glass products,” he said. “Whether project teams are working locally or across multiple regions, customers need confidence that products will be supplied consistently wherever projects are being delivered. At glasstec 2026, we aim to meet visitors from across the industry and show how we combine global capabilities with local execution. In this way, we help them specify and deliver projects from concept through to completion.”

A similar product is also offered by another manufacturer: Vitro offers a protective glass coating that does not need to be removed before toughening.
