With the new Dicolour line, German window manufacturer DIMEX is offering the first high gloss capped window profile to hit the European market.
German window manufacturer DIMEX is on the cutting edge of innovation in the building and construction industry with a new fenestration application developed with GE Advanced Materials. The new Dicolour line, the first high gloss capped window profile to hit the European market, uses innovative materials solution Geloy resin.
During the Dicolour development process, DIMEX designers quickly realized that only a material with several specific qualities would meet all fenestration design challenges. The right material would retain colour despite repeated exposure to the damaging rays of the sun.
It would also maintain a glossy finish season after season, through even the harshest natural elements. Additionally, DIMEX needed a supplier that could provide not just the material, but superior technology and customer support as well.
GE Advanced Materials provided the solution DIMEX sought with Geloy resin. The unique resin grade possesses weatherability properties superior to similar resin competitors, along with high gloss and colour retention. Added to GE Advanced Materials extensive colour technology expertise, this performance plastic was a perfect fit.
“GE Advanced Materials provided crucial support to the development of the Dicolour line,” said DIMEX CEO Jürgen Haug “The application development team at GE worked closely with us to determine our exact specifications and then helped us select the right resin and grade to help us bring our application to market as quickly as possible.”
One of the most weatherable polymers in GE’s portfolio, Geloy resins offer exceptional durability in outdoor environments. It retains its colour and mechanical properties under prolonged exposure to sunlight, moisture and heat. Geloy resins are used widely in most plastics processes, including extrusion, coextrusion, thermoforming and injection moulding.
The use of saturated rubber gives the Geloy resin family its long-term UV resistance, enabling it to retain its high level of impact strength, gloss and colour after prolonged exposure to the many kinds of adverse environments faced by typical construction projects. These qualities often result in an elimination of costly painting applications.
”Working with customers to find unique solutions to their toughest problems is always exciting,” said GE Advanced Materials Building and Construction Industry Manager Bert Groothuis.
“Working with DIMEX was particularly unique in that the company allowed us an opportunity to be a part of the entire development process. This ensured we were able to determine their exact specifications and work with the GE team to find the right materials solution to their design challenges.”
Geloy resin is also suitable for many other applications in the building and construction industry, including door profiles, cap stock for co-extruded house siding and windows, gutter systems, fencing and spa or pool steps.
