On September 2, 2024, the Minister for Building Safety and Homelessness announced the continuation of recognition of the European CE marking for construction materials in the UK. This means that construction products bearing the CE mark can continue to enter the UK market even after July 1, 2025. The previously set date for the cessation of the CE marking, designated for June 30, 2025, has been canceled.
Construction materials are a key element in ensuring housing construction and infrastructure. They account for 13% of the entire manufacturing base of the UK by sales volume. Continuous supplies of these materials are vital for fulfilling the government’s construction plans.
Products that fall under the current regulations of the construction industry must meet technical standards. They must be marked with the CE or UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark. However, the government has decided to continue recognizing the CE marking. Currently, there are insufficient testing and certification facilities for all construction materials in the UK.
Any changes regarding marking will be accompanied by a transition period of at least two years to give the construction industry time to adapt.
