NSG Group has deployed the workplace safety platform developed by Voxel at its manufacturing facilities in 10 countries. The system uses artificial intelligence technologies to monitor CCTV footage and detect hazardous situations in real time.
Following a successful pilot launch in June 2024 at its plant in Canada, the company expanded the use of the platform to sites in Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Canada and the United States. The Voxel technology integrates with existing CCTV cameras and helps identify safety breaches such as improper lifting, workers entering restricted areas and failure to comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
According to Leopoldo Garces Castiella, Head of the Architectural Glass business unit at NSG Group, the system’s introduction has enabled the company to significantly strengthen control over workplace safety and respond to risks more quickly. As a result, for instance, the number of unsafe incidents involving workers approaching machinery in Malaysia decreased by 75% over three months; ergonomic risks in Canada were reduced by 57%; and breaches of high-visibility vest use in the United States dropped by 62% within the first month.
Voxel ensures personnel anonymity by blurring workers’ faces and bodies, thus allowing compliance with data protection requirements in various countries.
Voxel CEO Vernon O'Donnell stated that the example of NSG Group demonstrates how manufacturers can leverage artificial intelligence to create safer working environments across the globe.
NSG Group emphasises that employee safety remains a priority in all its manufacturing processes and regions of operation. The company plans to further expand the use of the platform across its sites.
AI-based technologies are being increasingly adopted in industry. For instance, ASSA ABLOY uses artificial intelligence in automatic doors.
