From September 2026, Danish company VELUX is launching a new flat roof window with a standard glass module. This was announced by the VELUX press office. The manufacturer is offering the product to investors and specifiers looking for a modern appearance, proven quality and good technical performance at a more affordable price point.
The VELUX flat roof portfolio currently includes windows with domes, new-generation windows with flat and curved glass modules, as well as access windows with manual or electric opening. From September 2026, a window with a standard glass module will be added to the range. The manufacturer developed it for projects where aesthetics, functionality and control over investment costs are important.
The standard glass module features a minimalist design. Flat toughened glass in an aluminium frame creates a contemporary appearance. Compared with traditional domed windows, the new module offers better load resistance and is easier to clean.
A robust PVC base and double-pane IGU provide thermal and acoustic insulation. The Urc, ref300 thermal transmittance is 0.75 W/(m²K) at an Arc, ref300 area of 3.7 m². Sound insulation is 36–37 dB.
The manufacturer offers the new window in a fixed version and a version with electric opening. The electric version is equipped with a rain sensor that automatically closes the window when it rains. An energy-saving blackout blind or an electric pleated blind can be added to the window. These accessories control the amount of light entering the room.
The new window with a standard glass module is suitable for residential buildings and commercial properties, including schools, nurseries and office buildings. Its affordable price enables architects and investors to use modern flat roof glazing even in projects with limited budgets.
Installers can fit the window on roofs with pitches ranging from 2° to 15°. The manufacturer offers eight sizes, from 60 × 60 cm to 100 × 150 cm.
VELUX emphasises that the use of flat roof windows can reduce the need for artificial lighting by up to 20% in residential buildings and up to 60% in office spaces. These figures are cited in the study Energy Saving Lighting Control Systems for Open-Plan Offices: A Field Study (LEUKOS). Adding a flat roof window to a room with a façade window more than doubles the airflow, enabling rapid ventilation.
