On 8 April 2025, Ukraine signed a new free trade agreement with four European countries — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. These countries make up the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The news was announced by the Ministry of Economy’s press service. The signing took place in Kyiv, with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko and official representatives from the EFTA states in attendance. Ukraine had previously signed a free trade agreement with EFTA in 2010.
Key benefits for Ukrainian producers:
- Full removal of tariffs on industrial goods
- Easier access to EFTA markets
- Simpler participation in public procurement in these countries — less bureaucracy
- Clearer rules for exporters, with reduced red tape
The agreement also introduces new chapters:
- E-commerce: the agreement supports online trade and regulates the use of electronic signatures and contracts
- Support for small businesses: assistance for entrepreneurs in accessing relevant information and the creation of dedicated support centres
- Sustainable development: promoting environmentally friendly production and responsible business practices
Provisions on technical standards and the protection of copyrights and patents have also been revised.
