Germany’s Roto Frank Fenster- und Türtechnologie GmbH has announced an expansion of the range of applications for the Roto E-Tec Drive electric drive. Manufacturers can now install it in windows made from any frame material with sash weights of up to 100 kg.
Roto E-Tec Drive automatically unlocks the window, tilts the sash for ventilation, closes it and locks it. The drive is concealed within the window construction. When the sash is closed, it is not visible from either inside or outside.
The manufacturer is positioning the system particularly for fanlights and windows that are difficult to reach. Roto cites stairwells, waiting areas, classrooms and sports halls as potential applications. Users can set the degree to which the sash is tilted.
The drive is compatible with the Roto NX and Roto AL hardware systems. It can also be used in larger tilt-and-turn windows fitted with Roto TiltFirst hardware. The sash rebate width ranges from 450 to 2,400 mm, while the sash rebate height ranges from 285 to 3,000 mm. The maximum sash weight is 100 kg.
The window can be operated using a push-button, wireless push-button or remote control. The system also supports connection to building automation and smart home systems. Users can open the window mechanically, for example for cleaning or maintenance.
Roto offers two connection kits — the Connection Set and Wireless Connection Set. The latter includes an EnOcean radio module. It enables wireless push-buttons and remote controls to be connected and allows the drive to be integrated into automation systems that use EnOcean. Both kits are installed via a wired Plug&Play connection.
When connected to a building automation system, ventilation intervals can be set. For example, the system can tilt the sashes at night during the summer and close them after a specified period. The duration of ventilation can also be determined using data from indoor air sensors.
Previously, Roto described E-Tec Drive primarily as a drive for timber and PVC windows.
By comparison, Italy’s Giesse, part of Quanex, previously introduced Smart C.H.I.C. for aluminium tilt-and-turn windows. Smart C.H.I.C. is designed specifically for aluminium constructions and works in combination with Giesse C.H.I.C. concealed hinges.
