Schüco has unveiled the Sälzer S2es-w aluminium system for high-security windows. It combines three protection functions simultaneously: burglary resistance, bullet resistance and blast resistance — each meeting the highest classes of international standards.

The system was tested as a complete assembly, including the insulating glass unit (IGU) and wall anchoring. During testing, it withstood attempted break-ins using power tools, including a jigsaw and a large angle grinder. Following the tests, the system achieved the highest burglary resistance class, RC 6.

Ballistic testing was carried out using rifles and armour-piercing ammunition. The window achieved the highest bullet resistance class, FB7-NS, in accordance with EN 1522 / EN 1523. Ukraine has officially harmonised these standards as national standards DSTU EN 1522:2022 and DSTU EN 1523:2022. FB7-NS means that the construction can withstand fire from 7.62 × 51 mm armour-piercing rounds without penetration and without producing hazardous splinters on the protected side.

Blast resistance was tested with charges equivalent to up to 500 kg of explosives. In addition, the system holds EXR3 certification (12 kg explosive charge at a distance of 5.5 m) and EPR4 certification.

Incidentally, the topic of blast-resistant windows is also highly relevant in Ukraine. Read more about what has already been done in Ukraine regarding blast resistance testing of windows in the article: Windows: blast resistance.

The manufacturer states that the protective elements are integrated inside the profile, eliminating the need for additional external protective covers. All profiles have the same face width, ensuring a uniform façade appearance.

The S2es-w series windows are available in several configurations: fixed lights, tilt windows, tilt-and-turn windows and door variants. The frame depth is 135 mm, while the sash depth is 122.5 mm. Glass thickness reaches up to 97 mm in fixed windows and 102 mm in opening sashes. The maximum window size can reach 3090 × 3090 mm, subject to sash weight limitations. Hardware options for heavy sashes include side-hung hardware for sash weights up to 350 kg, as well as tilt-and-turn hardware for sash weights up to 200 kg.

The system can be combined with door and façade systems within the Sälzer range. The manufacturer positions the product for buildings with increased security requirements, including government facilities, banks, embassies, as well as industrial facilities in the chemical and petrochemical sectors where there is a risk of prolonged blast waves caused by accidents.

Sälzer has specialised in protective systems for buildings for more than 50 years and is part of the Schüco Group.
