Manufacturers of IGUs initially need to test their products according to ASTM 2190 before exporting them to the USA. Now, ift Rosenheim offers such testing in Europe.
The institute reports that European manufacturers can have their products tested and, for example, obtain an NFRC certification suitable for the USA. Currently, ift Rosenheim's tests are recognized by NAMI and NFRC. The institute notes that other certification bodies will be added soon.
ASTM E2190 "Standard Specifications for Insulating Glass Unit Performance and Evaluation" is developed for sealed double or triple glazing units. It includes testing IGUs according to ASTM 2188 and 2189 standards: ASTM 2188 defines the dew point, and ASTM 2189 determines resistance to fogging.
Previously, the British Standards Institution (BSI) signed an agreement with ift Rosenheim, under which ift's test results can be submitted to obtain the UKCA mark.
From 2025, construction products can only be exported to the UK with UKCA marking.
