Average share of cullet in AGC Glass Europe’s raw materials reaches 30%

According to AGC Glass Europe’s latest sustainability update, the average share of cullet in the company’s raw material mix has reached 30%. The company aims to raise this figure to 50% by 2030. In 2024, AGC recycled around 730,000 tonnes of cullet, saving an estimated 875,000 tonnes of natural raw materials and avoiding roughly 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The majority of cullet in the raw material composition comes from internal cullet, which the company reintroduces into the production process. To further increase the overall share, AGC is launching the AGC Recycle Glass programme, aiming to establish a closed-loop system for flat glass incorporating end-of-life cullet and pre-consumer production waste.

AGC is also expanding its use of low-carbon electricity. In 2024, the share of electricity from solar installations reached 20.8 GWh, up 90% compared to 2023. Total low-carbon energy consumption amounted to 211 GWh, of which 148 GWh were backed by guarantees of origin (GOs) issued through the AIB system.

Another milestone on the path to sustainability is the production of low-carbon glass. The first products were made in 2022 at the plant in Moustier, Belgium, followed by facilities in Seingbouse, France, and Osterweddingen, Germany, in 2024. This glass is now available in AGC’s key functional glass ranges — including thermal insulation, safety, and solar control products.

As a reminder, AGC ceased its operations in Ukraine in 2022 due to russia’s full-scale invasion. The company had been engaged in the sale of architectural and automotive glass.
Currently, the Ukrainian investment firm EFI Group is working on a crucial project to build a domestic flat glass manufacturing plant.
