German-Swiss company dormakaba is investing more than €2 million in the development of its production site in Bühl, Germany. The company has also extended the lease on the facility until 2035, dormakaba’s press office reported.
The investment covers the modernisation of production and an increase in production capacity of around 25%. dormakaba will purchase new laser equipment as well as sawing and milling machines.
The company will also add an automated high-voltage testing system to the production of sensor gates. In addition, dormakaba has modernised the staff restaurant at the facility.
The production expansion is linked to growing demand. In the 2025/26 financial year, dormakaba received several major orders from German airports.
The company will supply, replace and service more than 650 Argus Air sensor gates at Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf airports. Passengers use these systems as automated boarding gates. dormakaba manufactures them in Bühl.
At the same facility, the company has developed two new product variants for the global market. Series production of the Argus Air XS sensor gate will start in 2026. Production of the Argus Air Interlock pedestrian gate also began in 2026.
“With the investments and new product variants, we are systematically strengthening our development and production centre in Bühl. As a centre of expertise for systems in areas with increased security requirements, we are creating the conditions to meet growing demand and further expand our leading position in airport security,” said Fabian Kabbe, dormakaba’s site manager in Bühl.
PVC profile systems manufacturer aluplast had previously also announced an expansion of its production infrastructure in Germany. The company commissioned an automated high-bay warehouse worth €20 million.
