Velux receives two Red Dot Design Awards 2026 for new roller shutters

The VELUX Group announced that it has received two awards at the annual Red Dot Design Award for its new roller shutters mounted on the sash of a roof window. The product received the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” distinction in the design category — the highest accolade of the competition. In addition, the product was awarded the “Red Dot Award for Product Design” in the sun protection category.

The international Red Dot jury recognised the roller shutters for combining a clean appearance, functionality and user focus.

The new roller shutters are currently available in Austria. From 1 May 2026, they will also be available in Germany. Compared with the previous version, the new model features slimmer aluminium slats and reduced weight. The product also has a lower carbon footprint and meets the requirements of contemporary minimalist design.

VELUX Group Executive Vice President for Products and Innovation Tina Mayn Andersen commented on the award: “For installers, the new roller shutters simplify and speed up installation, while for homeowners they improve everyday comfort. Focusing on the needs of our customers is what drives our work. By combining reliable technical performance, contemporary design and reduced environmental impact, we have achieved exactly that. The product was also recently presented at the Dach+Holz trade fair in Cologne, Germany. Professional partners positively assessed the design, reduced weight and, in particular, the simplified installation.

Managing Director of VELUX Germany Silke Stehr noted: “This recognition confirms the positive feedback we have already received from various professional partners and installers ahead of the market launch in Germany on 1 May. We look forward to seeing how the new roller shutters will improve installers’ work and the everyday comfort of homeowners.”

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world. Each year, an international jury evaluates products based on criteria such as design quality, functionality, ergonomics and level of execution. The “Red Dot: Best of the Best” distinction is the highest in the competition.
