Ukraine’s national standardisation body, the state enterprise UkrNDNC, has approved the new membership and leadership of Technical Committee for Standardisation TC 300 “Doors and windows”. This was announced by the Ukrainian Manufacturers of Transparent Structures (UMTS).
The newly constituted TC 300 comprises seven organisations and three individual members. These include UMTS, the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, the Trade of Construction and Building Materials Industry Workers of Ukraine (PROFBUD), the relevant ministry, and the companies Vikna-Star, Miroplast and VEKA Ukraine.
Mykhailo Orlenko, Executive Director of UMTS, has been appointed Chair of TC 300. Oleh Borys, Deputy Chair of PROFBUD, has taken up the position of Deputy Chair. Nataliia Khala, a representative of UMTS, has been appointed Secretary of the Committee.
The national standardisation body has approved the committee’s membership for a two-year term, while the Chair and Deputy Chair will serve three-year terms from the dates on which the relevant orders come into force. At the same time, UkrNDNC has revoked Order No. 106 of 22 April 2019, which approved the previous regulations governing TC 300.
According to UMTS, the committee had been effectively inactive for the past four years. As a result, Ukraine’s regulatory framework has fallen behind developments in European standards for windows and doors.
According to the association, the European technical committees CEN/TC 33 and CEN/TC 129 adopted or updated 31 standards over a three-year period. During the same period, Ukraine’s TC 300 “Doors and windows” and TC 313 “Residential construction” adopted just one standard.
The newly constituted TC 300 plans to review the existing regulatory framework, eliminate duplication of standards and organise the adoption of up-to-date European documents as national standards of Ukraine. The committee will involve industry specialists in its standardisation work.
“The main principle I have set for myself is that the committee’s work must be as transparent as possible. Plans, decisions and draft standards will be publicly available, and everyone will be able to see what we are doing and why,” Mykhailo Orlenko wrote on Facebook.
The committee’s reorganisation was preceded by UMTS efforts to involve companies in financing standardisation activities. UMTS had previously brought together ten companies that agreed to provide annual funding for the translation, technical review and adoption of priority European EN standards.
TC 300 “Doors and windows” is responsible for developing, reviewing and coordinating national standards for windows, doors and related construction products. The committee also prepares proposals for adopting European and international standards as national standards of Ukraine.
