The Promprylad.Renovation project from Ivano-Frankivsk has reached the final of the prestigious European New European Bauhaus prize in the category “Priority for the places and people that need it the most”.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) prize is an initiative of the European Commission that combines aesthetics, sustainability and inclusion to improve community life across Europe. NEB recognises projects that practically embody these values in urban environments.
Promprylad has transformed the territory of a former factory into a modern development centre that integrates production spaces, educational programmes, cultural initiatives and business support.
The key aesthetic goal was to preserve the building’s historical identity, making it both welcoming and functional. The design team restored original industrial elements – exposed brick walls, steel structures and large factory windows – and combined them with contemporary architecture, eco-friendly materials and open-plan layouts. The façades were reconstructed using reclaimed brick, and systems for heat recovery ventilation and energy-efficient glazing — double-glazed units with energy-saving coating and argon — were installed.
The buildings in the centre meet energy efficiency class A standards and hold LEED certification.
More than 1800 investors are involved in the project, including local entrepreneurs, architects and artists. In addition to creating jobs, Promprylad supports internally displaced businesses and develops inclusive spaces: coworking areas with children’s rooms, educational platforms for women, and other initiatives that strengthen the community.
It has become an example of how neglected industrial sites can be turned into spaces for living, working and co-creation.
Public voting for the finalist on the official New European Bauhaus Prizes website is until 10 July 2025.
