This marks the sixth environmental award for Maco: the company has previously received four klima:aktiv awards and one earlier Energy Globe nomination. The 2025 win now adds to this collection.
As part of the project, which began in 2022, the company installed a 940 kW heat pump. Already, Maco has reduced its gas consumption by 40% and saves 5.3 GWh of energy annually. This also cuts CO₂ emissions by around 1,350 tonnes per year – the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of roughly 250 European households.
In addition to the heat pump, Maco also introduced:
- a cold storage system to flatten peak loads;
- the use of waste heat to shorten the operation time of boreholes and reduce the volume of water required for cooling;
- optimisation of office heating temperature settings using existing systems.
The total cost of the project is approximately €2.39 million, of which €718,000 was covered by Austria’s national environmental programme.
