Şişecam launches new glass coating lines in Bulgaria and Italy and expands capacity in Europe

The glass manufacturer Şişecam announced the commissioning of new production facilities in Europe at the beginning of 2026. The company brought two new glass coating lines into operation — one at its plant in Bulgaria and another at its facility in San Giorgio di Nogaro, Italy.

The Italian plant received a new coating line through an investment of €25 million. As a result, the facility’s annual production capacity increased from 6 million to 12.5 million square metres. The Bulgarian plant also received an additional line with a capacity of 6 million square metres per year.

Şişecam CEO Can Yücel commented on the launch: “The new glass coating line at our San Giorgio di Nogaro facility will expand our production capabilities and enrich our product portfolio. This will enable us to respond more effectively to the growing demand for high-quality glass in Europe and supply value-added products to our customers in Western Europe. By increasing our coated architectural glass production capacity in both Eastern and Western Europe, we will enhance our service quality and broaden the range of high-quality products available on the European market.”

Yücel also highlighted the growing global demand for coated glass: “We are entering a period in which our investments in high-quality products are beginning to deliver results one after another. Glass is a unique material that continuously evolves and is enriched by art and engineering. At Şişecam, we strive to transform our 90 years of experience and commitment to development into products that stand out in the marketplace.”

Alongside its expansion in Europe, Şişecam has completed construction of a new float glass plant in the Turkish city of Tarsus. Investment in the facility amounted to €315 million. The plant has started operating the TR9 line, bringing Şişecam’s total flat glass production capacity to more than 5 million tonnes per year. In addition, another coating line with an annual capacity of 7 million square metres is scheduled to be commissioned in Tarsus later this year.

Overall, following all planned launches, Şişecam will operate seven glass coating lines worldwide with a combined annual capacity of 48.1 million square metres.

In 2025, the Polish company Pilkington Polska also invested in a new architectural glass coating line.

Today, Şişecam manufactures glass on four continents in 12 countries, including Türkiye, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Georgia, Egypt, India and the United States.
