aluplast launches automated high-bay warehouse in Germany

aluplast GmbH has opened a fully automated high-bay warehouse in Germany. The company announced the opening on its official social media channels.

The warehouse was officially inaugurated on Saturday, 4 July, at the company's headquarters in Karlsruhe. The project required an investment of €20 million, making it the largest single investment in the company's history.

The warehouse building is 33 metres high and provides capacity for 7,300 pallet spaces. Combined with the existing facilities, the Karlsruhe site now offers a total capacity of approximately 15,000 storage locations for 6-metre profile lengths.

A key feature of the new warehouse is its ability to optimise product storage automatically overnight. Of the 7,300 pallet spaces, around 5,500 are used directly for product storage, while the remaining capacity is reserved for the warehouse's internal optimisation processes.

The new warehouse is primarily intended for Category B products, which the company prepares in advance to meet growing demand from the building renovation sector. High-turnover Category A products continue to be stored on full pallets in the outdoor storage area and move through the system directly.

One of the project's main objectives is the standardisation of logistics processes. Clearly defined order-picking algorithms, product identification using scanners and system-controlled process management reduce errors and improve warehouse reliability.

Incoming goods inspection and the management of all logistics processes through a single control centre increase transparency and improve inventory accuracy. New functions, including an order-picking planner and barcode labelling of every individual profile length, enable products to be tracked throughout every stage of the logistics process.

The new warehouse forms part of the aluplast Group's long-term investment strategy. In addition to Karlsruhe, the company continues to invest in the development and modernisation of its international facilities in Poland, the United States and Australia. In Germany, aluplast has previously invested in profile lamination and the modernisation of its plant in Ettlingen.

As the Group's headquarters, Karlsruhe plays a central role within aluplast's international network. The optimised logistics processes are expected to benefit the company's key markets, including France, Spain and Italy, as well as the Group's subsidiaries.
