REHAU Synego for a Family Castle in Belgium: A Combination of Historic Architecture and Modern Comfort

Historic buildings always have a special atmosphere. They preserve family history, the architecture of their era, and unique details that cannot be recreated in modern construction. That is why, during the renovation or modernization of such properties, it is especially important to find the right balance between authentic appearance and modern comfort.

One such project was a family castle in the Belgian city of Tienen, built at the beginning of the 20th century. The owners faced a challenging task — to preserve the style of the historic building while making it warm, energy-efficient, and comfortable for everyday living.

For this project, REHAU Synego uPVC windows were selected — one of the most premium profile systems in the REHAU range. This system is an excellent choice for large private homes and historic properties where not only technical performance but also the appearance of the constructions plays an important role.

The main focus of the project was maximum thermal insulation and comfort throughout the year. That is why the castle was equipped with highly energy-efficient glazing featuring solar control and energy-saving glass. This solution not only reduces heat loss during winter but also protects interiors from overheating in summer. For Belgium, where the climate is often humid and cool, energy efficiency is especially important.

Special attention was also paid to the window design. From the outside, the constructions were finished in Schwarzbraun — a deep dark brown shade that perfectly matches the facade of the historic building and highlights its classic architectural style. Inside, a white wood-effect laminate finish was used, adding brightness and comfort while harmoniously complementing the classic interior of the castle.

Another important detail was the concealed hardware. This solution makes the windows look more elegant and minimalist, as the hinges remain completely invisible when the sash is closed. In addition to the modern appearance, concealed hardware ensures smooth operation, improved airtightness, and greater everyday comfort.

For historic buildings, it is extremely important that new constructions do not disrupt the original architectural character of the property. That is why the colors, profile type, and configurations were individually selected for this project. As a result, it was possible to preserve the atmosphere of the old family castle while complementing it with modern technologies and a high level of energy efficiency.

Today, more and more owners of historic homes across Europe choose modern window systems for the renovation of older buildings. This significantly improves thermal insulation, sound insulation, and living comfort without compromising the architectural value of the property.
