Roof window manufacturer VELUX Group plans to power its European operations with 100% renewable energy by 2024. The company will buy electricity from BayWa re in Spain.
Once connected to the grid in 2023 and 2024, the two solar parks will produce 167 GWh of renewable electricity for VELUX every year. This is equal to the electricity consumption of approximately 45,000 European homes. According to the company, the energy produced will provide 100% of the consumption of European operations and up to 90% of global consumption.
About 10% of one of the solar parks will consist of Agri-PV installations. They combine energy production and food growing. Photovoltaic panels are placed higher and at a greater distance between rows. This allows you to grow crops and drive between the rows of machineries. At the same time, rainwater will be collected to reduce the risk of possible drought.
