VELUX Group starts purchasing low carbon-emissions steel from ArcelorMittal. The cooperation between the two companies has announced at BAU 2023. The initiative aims to halve emissions in the value chain by 2030.
Depending on the type of steel, VELUX plans to reduce embedded CO2 by up to 70% compared to conventionally produced steel.
ArcelorMittal XCarb recycled flat steel has produced using at least 75% scrap and 100% renewable electricity. Hinges and brackets for roof windows will make from ArcelorMittal XCarb at a factory in Poland.
Earlier, the company announced the production of blinds for roof windows made from recycled materials.
In 2022, VELUX reduced its emissions from production by 26% and saw a slight reduction in emissions in the value chain. This is stated in the company's sustainability report for 2022.
