This year’s "Window Days in Rosenheim" took place against the backdrop of complex issues for the window and façade sector: sustainability, a shortage of skilled workers, and cybersecurity. The main topic was "climate-resilient construction," which is creating new challenges for businesses.

Keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Winfried Heusler, emphasized the importance of sustainability, which is based on three pillars: ecology, economy, and social aspects. He pointed out that next year, new requirements for building materials will pose a serious challenge for window manufacturers. However, this could also be an opportunity for growth. It was also noted that the use of the term "sustainability" is now only permitted if scientifically substantiated.

The shortage of skilled labor and economic problems were also addressed. However, Professor Heusler sees significant potential for growth in the renovation sector.

"Now the construction crisis should be used to develop appropriate building products and train workers so that they are prepared for the future restructuring of the construction sector," said Mr. Heusler.

Another important point was the detailed explanation of various aspects of "climate resilience." Among the many possible solutions to the problem were increasing durability, the ability to transform, and adapt to the consequences of climate change. Digitalization is an important tool that manufacturers must use, for example, to store data on product characteristics, warranty conditions, assembly instructions, maintenance, and care.

Cybersecurity expert Mark T. Hofmann spoke about the dangers of cyberattacks in the digitized window industry. Hofmann emphasized that 90% of attacks are caused by "human" vulnerability, urging companies to pay more attention to this issue.

Although the industry is facing numerous challenges, the atmosphere among the 650 participants was one of optimism. The key message was: it is time for action and new ideas. Window companies must quickly adapt to new conditions to maintain their market positions.
