Eastman Chemical Company (USA) has announced the use of Saflex FlySafe™ 3D technology in special insulating glass units with integrated blinds, developed by the German company Faltenbacher Jalousienbau GmbH & Co. KG under the ISOLETTE® Birdblind CC® brand.

The unit combines the functions of sun protection, privacy and bird safety. The built-in blinds can be tilted at 45 degrees (daytime) or closed. Together with the outer glass laminated with Saflex FlySafe™ 3D, they protect birds from colliding with the glass. Tests conducted by COLLABS in the flight tunnel of the ornithological station in Hohenau (Austria) confirmed the effectiveness of the design — the protection rate reaches 93%, and the probability of collision is only 7%.

BirdBlind ClosedCavity consists of:
  • 6 mm laminated glass as the outer pane with Saflex FlySafe™ 3D interlayer;
  • a cavity with integrated Isolette blinds, 27 or 32 mm wide;
  • an inner 6 mm pane: toughened, laminated or energy-efficient glass to choose from.

According to the manufacturers, this combination makes it possible to design solutions for different climatic conditions, suitable for almost any profile system or façade glazing. The technology is aimed at the modern window market, where ecological approaches in window production are gaining importance.

In addition to FlySafe™ 3D, Faltenbacher Jalousienbau GmbH also offers an alternative for such units — applied SEEN-Elements® (Switzerland), which also provide bird protection.
