The first Living Places concept house is being built near Lviv for foster children

SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine announced the start of construction of the first eco-home for foster children in Dublyany, near Lviv. The project “Children’s Living Places” is being implemented in cooperation with the Lviv City Council, SOS Children’s Villages Denmark, and the Hermann Gmeiner Fund from Germany.

The site will include three residential buildings and a social centre, where children deprived of parental care will receive support in a family environment. The centre will also become a community support space for children, parents, and local institutions.

The construction follows the Living Places concept developed by VELUX in collaboration with architects EFFEKT and engineers Artelia. Its core principles are energy efficiency, sustainability, and safe conditions for children.

The construction is expected to be completed in early 2026, with two more locations to be announced later.

The non-governmental organisation SOS Children’s Villages Denmark initiated the project at the beginning of 2024. In Lviv, the city authorities supported the initiative by signing a memorandum at the end of 2024. On 19 August 2025, SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine won an open auction for the lease of a plot of land in Dublyany, and on 4 September signed the lease agreement. On 14 October 2025, a ceremonial cornerstone laying and time capsule installation took place.
