According to Rewindo GmbH Fenster-Recycling-Service, 2024 has seen a positive change in the recycling trend for old PVC windows, doors and roller shutters in Germany. After a downturn in 2023, recycling volumes rose again by around 2.5%, returning to the 2022 level. Through the Rewindo system, 44,109 tonnes of dismantled PVC products were collected — 1,109 tonnes more than last year. In total, 86,973 tonnes of production and installation waste were reintroduced into the manufacturing cycle, and the recycling rate of old windows reached 87% of available volumes.
Rewindo Managing Director Michael Vetter noted that the collected data indicates a change in the recycling trend. The result was made possible by closer cooperation between the initiative’s partners and the expansion of the nationwide collection network for old PVC windows.
In 2024, Rewindo brought in new logistics and recycling partners — there are now 16 in total, and the number of collection points for old PVC windows has exceeded 100.
Rewindo emphasises that the main goal is to prevent dismantled windows from ending up in construction waste, ensuring they are collected separately and returned to the production cycle.
In Ukraine, there is still no system for collecting and recycling old PVC windows and doors. The lack of legislative initiatives and economic incentives continues to hinder the development of this sector.

The initiative was launched in 2002. Participants include leading German PVC profile manufacturers such as VEKA AG, REHAU Industries, profine GmbH (brands KBE, KÖMMERLING, TROCAL), Schüco Polymer Technologies, Salamander Industrie-Produkte, aluplast GmbH, Deceuninck Germany and GEALAN Fenster-Systeme.
