According to the 2024 Sustainability Report, VELUX Group is running pilot projects to explore how extending the lifespan of roof windows could become part of its business model. This also aligns with the principles of the circular economy — fewer replacements, less waste, lower CO₂ emissions.
In Germany, the company is testing two programmes focusing on preventive maintenance, repairs, and the upgrading of already installed roof windows. Through these approaches, VELUX aims to improve the performance of existing structures and extend their service life.
In Denmark, the company is testing the refurbishment of windows up to 20 years old — cleaning, repairing, and upgrading them to demonstrate how products can be given a "second life". The results are feeding into the ongoing development of products, services, and manufacturing processes.
On the German service website, VELUX clarifies that for roof windows manufactured more than 20 years ago (before 2000), full technical servicing is no longer provided. It is no longer possible to guarantee a lasting effect after repair.
At the same time, in the Netherlands, the company is testing a programme for returning old roof windows, also aimed at reducing the environmental impact of production.
