Mosquito screens for windows and doors

How to choose the right mosquito screen

During summer, mosquito screens are a vital barrier against the main threats to indoor comfort—fluff, mosquitoes, and flies. The range of mosquito screens is expanding, and today, alongside traditional options, there are newer types available, such as pet-resistant screens and universal pleated mosquito screens.

Attention! A mosquito screen will NOT hold a child! Child safety around windows is ensured ONLY with specialised locks: handles with locks, locking handles, and special hardware kits. Read more about child window safety in the article “How to Make a Window Safe for Children Quickly?”

Window Mosquito Screens

Framed mosquito screen. A frame made of aluminium profile is connected by corner joints, with fibreglass mesh installed inside. The mesh is secured using a rubber cord pressed into the frame groove along with the mesh.
The frame has side handles and mounts for attaching it to the window profile.

Protection level:
A standard framed mosquito screen cannot withstand additional loads, so it must not be leaned on. It does not protect against falls for children or pets.

Pet-resistant window screen is specially designed to prevent animals (such as cats) from falling out of windows. It features thick fibreglass thread (0.8 mm), strong fixation in the groove, and reinforced mounting elements. The threads are fused together at the intersections. For additional protection, a horizontal bar (as used indoor mosquito screens) can be added.

Protection level:
Designed to withstand the weight of a cat-sized pet. Pet-resistant mosquito screens do NOT ensure child safety!

Roll-up mosquito screen (also called a roller mosquito screen). This is a box with a screen roll and guides. The box is mounted at the top or side of the window. The screen unrolls via a slat (down or sideways along the guides) and locks into place with a latch. Off-season, the screen rolls back into the box for compact storage.

Protection level:
A roll-up mosquito screen protects only against insects and fluff. It is not a barrier against falls for children or pets.

Sliding mosquito screens are designed for sliding window and door systems. They can slide to either sash and operate like a sliding wardrobe.

Protection level:
Sliding mosquito screens do not prevent falls of children or pets. They are used to blocking insects and fluff.

Door Mosquito Screens

Framed mosquito screens for doors use a reinforced profile. A horizontal bar is often added for increased durability.

Magnetic mosquito screens for doors or magnetic mosquito curtains offer a convenient defence against insects and poplar fluff. Used for entrance doors, magnets weight down the curtain and automatically close the two halves together after entry/exit.
The two mesh halves are mounted at the top of the door so that they align tightly. Magnetic strips should connect firmly.

Universal Pleated Sliding Mosquito Screens

Pleated sliding mosquito screens have an accordion-like structure and can cover large openings up to 3 metres in height.

Installation options for pleated mosquito screens:

  1. Windows
  2. Skylights
  3. Doors

Maintaining a Mosquito Screen

Framed screens do not need to be disassembled for cleaning. Simply rinse them in the shower. Roll-up screens can be cleaned less frequently, but the process is more complex.
