Architects are increasingly demonstrating a way beyond the limitations imposed by the simplicity of standard flat facades.
Bold volumetric facades by Schuco
Schuco demonstrated unusual technical solutions that allow for the realisation of bold volumetric facades at BAU. The company was able to show the system flexibility, keeping the load-bearing support posts flat, but using them at different angles, in combination with volumetric infill elements. Variations of the infill include two triangles and irregular quadrangles.
Another important element of the façade was the use of milk glass in the triangular elements, which can serve as sun protection in the right orientation.
Volumetric curtain facade by Pohl
Alternative possibilities for creating a 3D facade (albeit on a somewhat smaller scale) had also shown by Pohl.
The complexly profiled metal panels of the facade create a single three-dimensional picture. And this overall picture includes sun protection shutters. Such a facade is installed on ordinary flat walls. This reduces the total cost of the construction compared to options for creating walls of complex shapes.
