Briefly about EN 1279-6. Product control in production and periodic testing
The EN 1279-6 standard is aimed at guaranteeing the high quality and reliability of insulating glass units used in construction. It is achieved by meeting the regulatory requirements for thermal insulation, sound insulation and other characteristics that ensure its efficient operation. The standard establishes procedures and requirements for the inspection and control of various aspects of insulating glass production, such as:
Requirements for quality control in production: defines the requirements for quality control procedures that the manufacturer must apply during the production of insulating glass units. This includes checking glass properties, airtightness, inter-chamber space and other aspects.
Periodic tests: manufactured insulating glass units are tested to ensure compliance with the requirements. These tests may include measurements of heat transfer, sound insulation, internal and external pressure resistance, etc.
Conformity assessment: the standard specifies procedures that allow manufacturers to assess the conformity of their products with the requirements of the standard and mark it.

The main aspects of the quality management system include input, in-process and outcome control.
- Input control: All materials for production are tested in a central laboratory in Switzerland. Only materials that have successfully passed the test are used in the plants. Each plant has its own laboratory for incoming inspection.
- In-process control: Visual inspection of parts and materials is carried out at each workstation. There are clearly defined acceptance criteria for each production operation.
Primary and secondary sealant: | The quantity and quality of the applied sealant is checked in accordance with regulatory documents. Objective control is carried out to confirm the correctness of the process. |
Molecular sieve and water hardness: | The moisture absorption capacity of the molecular sieve and the quality of the glass cleaning water are checked daily. |
Level of inert gas filling: | The gas filling must be at least 90%, and the test is carried out for each line. |
Labelling: | A quality product must have its own marking to confirm its quality and prevent counterfeiting. That is why all double-glazed windows from Glas Trösch in Ukraine have the appropriate marking on the visible side: GLAS TRÖSCH SWISS TECHNOLOGY. |
- Output control: The parameters of the finished double-glazed windows are checked in accordance with the standards of Ukraine, and documentation is kept on a daily basis.
