International glass manufacturer NSG Group presented the concept of a smart window at the specialized exhibition Glasstec 2022. SenseComfort is a double-glazed window with a special sensor. The sensor measures the intensity of incoming light and solar heat. This helps to optimize smart buildings to use sunlight and heat for a more comfortable and healthy working environment.
PHYSEE Group developed a sensor. The Dutch company creates digital twins of buildings and optimizes energy consumption to increase user comfort. The sensors are mounted in a double-glazed window and powered by small solar panels.
In October 2021, PHYSEE Group and NSG Group joined forces to equip several European office buildings of 15,000 smart windows. And in September 2022, NSG Group presented the smart window concept to specialists at an industry exhibition.
Measuring the intensity of incoming light and solar heat allows you to continuously monitor the impact of the external climate on the indoor environment. This is important for optimizing smart buildings to use as much light and heat from the sun as possible. Sunlight is free heat and light. If the building façade reacts to external light and weather conditions, it is possible, for example, to precisely control sun blinds and reduce energy consumption. PHYSEE reports the possibility of reducing energy consumption in a building by up to 30%.
