Rehau Window Solutions has expanded its plant for recycling old plastic windows. This was announced in the company's press centre. The resulting PVC raw materials are reused in the production of new window profiles, reports OKNA.ua.
The new distribution and sorting system has been installed at the Dekura subsidiary in Germany.
According to REHAU, the system provides an almost precise separation of materials in the shredded PVC. Special emphasis is placed on the technology of optical separation of glass and other materials from the PVC stream.
REHAU Window Solutions has recycling plants in three countries: England, Germany and Poland. European profile brands are trying to systematically increase the share of recycled materials in their products.
In Ukraine, PVC production plants use only "clean" recycled materials. Window sill manufacturers buy profile remnants from window manufacturers that are free of dirt, residual foam, etc. There are no companies in the country that collect and recycle old plastic windows and doors. Constructions end up in landfills. The destruction caused by the hostilities and the urgency to save energy will increase the amount of such waste.
Ukraine has raised the issue of recycling construction waste during reconstruction, but only glass and wood have been addressed. So far, there is no legislative initiative on the feasibility of building a plant for recycling windows and doors.
