AGC and Saint-Gobain, the world's flat glass manufacturers, have announced a collaboration. They develop a pilot flat glass line that will reduce direct CO2 emissions. This was announced by the companies' press centres.
Both companies already have experience in this field. While Saint-Gobain has used recycled glass and green energy, AGC has also improved the energy efficiency of the melting furnace and optimised transport.
AGC and Saint-Gobain are now working on an industrial flat glass line that will run primarily on low-carbon electricity. As part of the project, AGC's glass production line in the Czech Republic will reconstruct. It will run on 50% electricity and 50% a combination of natural gas and oxygen.
The new technology is implemented in the second half of 2024. Saint-Gobain says the hybrid furnace will be the most sustainable plant in the world.
