AGC Glass Europe, a float glass manufacturer, and ROSI, a pioneer in recycling materials from photovoltaic modules, announced a strategic partnership.
On September 13 in France, the companies signed an agreement to recycle glass from decommissioned photovoltaic panels for reuse in flat glass production. This will significantly reduce the consumption of raw materials and lower carbon dioxide emissions.
Recycling glass consumes 25% less energy than producing new glass. Solar panels contain up to 70% glass, making them an important source of raw material for the glass industry. Using recycled glass from photovoltaic panels preserves product quality while reducing the environmental footprint of production.
AGC Glass Europe, with ROSI's expertise, will adapt its production processes to incorporate secondary raw materials. Successful tests have already been conducted using glass waste in production.
This is not the first such initiative for the glass manufacturer. AGC has previously successfully converted solar panel cover glass into float glass at a factory in Japan.
