Renolit enhances environmental standards at its German facility

According to the Renolit press office, the company has invested more than €10 million in the construction of a new hazardous materials warehouse at its Worms plant in Germany. The project began in summer 2023 and the facility has now been officially inaugurated.

The warehouse, covering almost 1,200 m², enables the centralised storage of both liquid and solid hazardous substances, significantly increasing production safety and meeting the updated requirements of German water legislation. This development has reduced the need for forklift transport of dangerous goods and optimised raw material logistics within the plant.

The company has installed 13 liquid storage tanks and established eight loading and unloading stations for both liquid and solid substances. The new facility is connected by pipelines to the existing warehouse, providing direct delivery of raw materials to production halls without requiring additional handling in the preparation zone.

“We have taken an important step towards modernising our production. The new hazardous materials warehouse is impressive in its environmental safety and high level of protection,” emphasised Dr. Michael Bätz, head of the Worms production site.

A notable feature of the new warehouse is its containment system: tanks and containers are installed below floor level and sealed with a certified impermeable coating to prevent chemical or firefighting water leaks into the environment.

Renolit has also upgraded the site infrastructure, including the construction of a new internal road for tankers, allowing the company to exceed the requirements of the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). Despite a complex two-year approval process, the company accounted for future expansion — there is space for 11 additional tanks and a further 384 m² of bulk storage.

Renolit is also in the process of merging its plants in Worms and Frankenthal. The total investment in this consolidation amounts to €130 million. The unification is expected to be completed within five years, as expansion at the Frankenthal location is not possible due to its position in a residential area.
