The Italian company Forel presented at the Vitrum 2025 exhibition an improved technology for manufacturing insulating glass units with a thermoplastic spacer more than 20 mm wide. The demonstration followed the successful premiere of the development at Glasstec 2024 in Düsseldorf.
The new patented extruder enables the uniform application of a wide thermoplastic spacer, allowing the production of larger insulating glass units. Previously, such a process was challenging because it was difficult to apply the thermoplastic material evenly across a large surface.
Thanks to an integrated buffer with an alignment station, the thermoplastic spacer is cooled and stabilised before pressing. This prevents deformation, ensures precise positioning, and guarantees the stable quality of the finished unit.
According to Forel representatives, the technology also supports the use of thin spacers from 5.3 mm in height.
