Germany’s window and external door market is stabilising

Germany’s window market could grow by 2.2% in 2026 and the external door market by 2.5%. This forecast was presented by the German Window and Façade Association (VFF) at the “Statistics and Market” conference held on 29 September 2026 in Frankfurt am Main.

Jörg Flasdieck from the German market research company Heinze GmbH presented a forecast of 13.16 million window units for 2026. In 2027, this figure could increase by a further 1.5% to 13.35 million units. The VFF specifies that one standardised window unit corresponds to a window measuring 1.3 × 1.3 metres.

The external door market could reach 1.169 million units in 2026. This would represent an increase of 2.5% compared with 2025. For 2027, analysts forecast growth of 1.2% to 1.183 million doors.

VFF Managing Director Frank Lange noted that high financing costs, changes to government support for buildings and new regulatory requirements are affecting the market.

In a separate statement issued by the VFF on 1 October, Frank Lange said: “The current figures indicate that residential construction is stabilising again and receiving fresh impetus from the increasing number of building permits.”

Martin Langen from the German market research company B+L Marktdaten GmbH highlighted the situation in the construction industry. High borrowing costs are holding back private investment. At the same time, an increase in public sector contracts and investment could support non-residential construction. In 2027, the residential and non-residential sectors are expected to develop at different rates.

A separate study by Heinze GmbH focused on modular and serial construction. The companies surveyed expect further growth in this segment, particularly in commercial, office and industrial construction. Window and door manufacturers should take into account that architects and planners often influence product selection even before a tender is announced.

According to Martin Langen, European construction markets are also showing the first signs of recovery. However, high financing and construction costs continue to hold back the residential sector. The number of building permits is already increasing in some countries, but the pace of recovery varies.

OKNA.ua previously reported that the Western European window market could grow by 1.2% in 2026 after three years of declining sales. This forecast was published by the Austrian market research company Interconnection Consulting.
