Is PADK the future standard for window opening?
Are there reasons that will force us to change our habits again and learn a new window management interface? And do you need to give up the tilt of the window? Let’s figure it out together.
Comfort
In a window with a parallel sliding leaf, there is a large ventilation area, which has distributed along the perimeter for good mixing of air. If the sash has located above the heating radiator, cold air from the lower part of the window falls on the battery, heats up quickly and immediately rises. As a result, there are no drafts along the floor. There should be no discomfort due to the temperature difference in the room, and the fresh air heats up quickly.
Because the gap in the case of ventilation in the PADK system is only 6 mm, during precipitation, drops should not enter the room at all.
Studies have shown that a window with a parallel deflection of the sash protects the room from street noise much better than when it is in an inclined position. You can agree with this. But you should not count on a serious level of noise insulation from the road.
Safety
PADK hardware solves security issues in five aspects at once, allowing the room ventilated, even if there is no one at home:
- Winkhaus claims that in ventilation mode (parallel shear) a window can meet the RC2 break-in resistance class. For PVC windows, this is practically the limit class.
- The position of the handle for ventilation does not show the condition of the sash to intruders. The handle has located along the sash during ventilation, and in traditional hardware the handle has turned at an angle of 45°.
- The room can be put under protection, leaving windows with sashes in ventilation mode.

- Safety for pets: the cat will not get stuck in the window (as it can happen in the case of an inclined sash), and the parrot will not fly out through the gap into the street.
For non-standard windows
Parallel sliding is an excellent solution for non-standard window designs, as it allows you to easily return the sash to the closed state (activPilot Comfort PADS system). In the case of using classic hardware in windows with a non-standard configuration, there is often a problem with closing — the sash may sag in the open position.
Results
Positive advantages of PADK hardware:
- The ability to intentionally or accidentally leave the sash for ventilation when there is no one in the house.
- Possibility to put the house under protection when the sashes in the ventilation mode for improving the microclimate.

Disadvantages:
- A non-standard opening, which will become a habit like any novelty.
- Relatively high price. In case of mass use, this type of hardwares can be compared in price with conventional hardwares of a similar class.

We are so used to standard solutions that it becomes difficult to imagine how window production technologies can develop. What is the next step? Widespread use of automation is possible. For example, the automatically activation of the ventilation mode depending on the level of CO2 in the room.
