The Italian manufacturer CMS has announced the launch of the vertical automatic Aura machine for dry glass edge grinding. This was reported in CMS company materials, where the equipment is positioned as an affordable option.
The Aura machine operates without the use of water and is designed for edge processing prior to washing, tempering or insulating glass unit assembly. The machine automatically measures the height, length and thickness of the glass and adjusts its working units to different parameters on its own.
Aura processes monolithic, laminated and low-emissivity glass. The equipment supports thicknesses from 3 to 22 mm and speeds of up to 25 m per minute. The maximum sheet height is 2700 mm, while the length reaches 4000 mm with the option of extension.
CMS emphasises that eliminating water reduces infrastructure and maintenance costs as well as downtime. The company also highlights easy installation and the possibility of operating the machine either as a standalone unit or as part of an insulating glass production line.
The operator only needs to load the glass and start the cycle, after which the machine processes all four sides. This approach reduces the risk of errors and shortens changeover time between different thicknesses.
Earlier, another company also reported developments in automated edge grinding: Adelio Lattuada presented a grinding machine with full Internet of Things integration.
CMS notes that Aura is specifically designed for arrissing sharp edges on rectangular glass. For edge polishing, substantial material removal or the processing of shaped glass, other types of equipment are more suitable.
