Sanco Group has announced that its triple-pane IGUs featuring an ultra-thin centre pane will now be marketed under the name Sanco Light. The company made the announcement during the 54th annual meeting of its partner network, held at the end of May 2026.
The concept for this product originated earlier. Glas Trösch and Corning Incorporated developed a prototype triple-pane IGU with a 0.5 mm ultra-thin centre pane. They presented it to industry professionals at the international BAU 2025 trade fair.
Sanco Gruppe is a European alliance of IGU manufacturers. Its member companies operate under a franchise model, bringing together independent medium-sized glass manufacturers under the common Sanco brand. The network is licensed by the Glas Trösch Group, which also operates manufacturing facilities in Ukraine.
Window manufacturers and insulating glass processors in Germany and across Europe are increasingly looking for slimmer profiles, higher energy efficiency, reliable acoustic insulation and more sustainable materials, while maintaining straightforward processing. The Sanco Light product range with thin glass has been developed to meet these requirements.
The Sanco Light product range consists of two variants:
* Sanco Light 0.5 – glass thickness: 0.5 mm; maximum dimensions: 1,000 × 2,200 mm; weight: 1.19 kg/m²;
* Sanco Light 2.0 – glass thickness: 2.0 mm; maximum dimensions: 1,500 × 2,200 mm; weight: 5 kg/m².
According to the company, the maximum dimensions of 1,500 × 2,200 mm make it possible to use Sanco Light in around 75% of typical building renovation applications.
In addition, Sanco Light is also available with laminated safety glass.
Depending on the configuration, IGUs with thin glass are 17–47% lighter than comparable units made with standard 4 mm glass. This offers several advantages:
* easier handling on construction sites and during manufacturing;
* reduced load on hardware and window frames;
* the possibility of designing slimmer window profiles.
Both Sanco Light variants have a service life comparable to that of standard glass and comply with current standards.
Among the key technical characteristics, the manufacturers highlight the thermal insulation performance: the Ug-value reaches 0.5 W/m²K while maintaining a relatively slim overall unit thickness. Combined with a solar control coating, the IGU provides protection against summer overheating and helps maintain a comfortable indoor climate.
During the partner network meeting, the company also announced that Sanco Light and other product innovations will be the central theme of its joint stand at the BAU trade fair in Munich in January 2027. The product's major public debut is planned for that event. At the May meeting, Sanco Light was presented primarily to members of the partner network.
