Types of window reinforcement (steel armouring)

Window reinforcement is the steel stiffening profile inside the PVC, and its thickness and placement determine the rigidity and geometry of the window.

The video explains how to tell whether reinforcement is present and what to check when choosing a window.

What the video shows

• reinforcement is a steel profile inside the PVC profile that gives the structure rigidity;


• for a white profile the recommended metal thickness is 1.5 mm;


• for a wood-laminated profile it is 2 mm;


• for entrance doors it is 2 mm by default, regardless of colour;


• cost is cut by reducing the metal thickness to 1.2 or 0.8 mm;


• the reinforcement can be identified by its fixing screws; sometimes the steel is present only near the hinge (about 20 cm) while the rest of the profile is empty.
