At BAU 2023, the Swiss company air-lux presented a sliding window of up to 25 m2. This year, the company’s specialists focused on demonstrating a zero threshold to create a barrier-free design. However, the unique sealing system is interesting.
As noted by air-lux, the pneumatic seal remains airtight at large sizes up to 25 m2 and a sash weight of 1800 kg.
The button activates the seal. Air is pumped into the frame and the seal is flattened and pressed against the profile. When the button is pressed a second time, the air is released and the seal returns to its concave position. This can be used for natural ventilation of the room. A gap between the sliding sash and the frame has a width of 5 mm.
The sliding window with an active seal uses the Schüco AS AL 75 system. In 2022, the strategic partnership between air-lux and Schüco was recognised by an international jury. The sliding window won the RedDot Award Winner.
air-lux points out that the basic design can be upgraded with additional components up to burglary resistance class RC3. The appearance of the structure will not change.
Safe natural ventilation in windows can be ensured with the help of fittings. For example, the Winkhaus activPilot Comfort PADK allows the sash to be moved so that a 6 mm opening is created around the perimeter of the window. WINKHAUS claims that in the ventilation mode (parallel shift), the window can meet the RC2 burglary resistance class.
