The German testing institute Prüfinstitut Schlösser und Beschläge Velbert (PIV) has announced the commissioning of a new test rig for testing windows and window doors with concealed hinges that open to an angle of 180°.
PIV can now carry out tests that go beyond the scope of the EN 13126-8:2017 standard (DSTU EN 13126-8:2022), which only covers tests with an opening angle of up to 90°. At the same time, the new test rig complies with the recently updated German quality standard RAL-GZ607/3 for tilt and tilt-and-turn hardware.
The new rig makes it possible to test the long-term operation, strength and stability of window hardware under increased loads and large opening angles, which are increasingly used in modern windows. This helps to assess hardware performance under conditions close to real-life window operation.
Since 1978, PIV has been involved in testing, certification and surveillance of locks, hardware, windows and doors. The institute operates under DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, and the results of its tests are recognised in many countries worldwide.
