In May 2022, the European Commission proposed to increase the energy efficiency target by 2030 in the REPowerEU plan. If in July 2021 the figure was agreed at 9%, then in the spring of 2022 - up to 13%. And in September 2022, the European Parliament voted for 14.5%. This led to a clash of positions between the Commission and the Parliament. Discussions continue.
The principle of "Energy Efficiency First" has become key due to the energy crisis created by the russians.
According to the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, the new target means a 42.5% reduction in primary energy consumption and a 40% reduction in final energy consumption in 2030 compared to 2007 forecasts.
Despite difficult negotiations, lawmakers plan to sign the new law this year.
