Pilkington has opened a new glass tempering furnace at its plant in Norway. The company’s press centre has reported about it.
The new 5th generation glass tempering furnace from the Chinese company NorthGlass is 25 metres long. It replaced a furnace installed in 1992 that had been in operation until now.
The new furnace toughens glass horizontally. It can process glass from 100x300 mm to 2440x5000 mm, with a thickness of 4-19 mm for float glass and 4-10 mm for coated glass.
The furnace is fully digitally controlled. Sensor systems control the process: excessive or insufficient heating and cooling. To comply with noise insulation standards in the workplace, a noise-absorbing cabin is installed on the furnace.
Pilkington notes that detailed testing has been carried out to ensure the expected quality of the tempered glass.
It is one step of the modernisation of NSG Group’s European production facilities. Earlier, the group modernised a double-glazed window production plant in Poland.
