The German organization Fenster + Fassade (VFF) has identified six key trends in entrance door design that will define 2025. According to VFF, entrance doors are durable products that transcend short-term design fads. However, new materials and digitalization are increasingly shaping door design.
Among the long-term trends, VFF highlighted:
Trend 1. Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness
Manufacturers are increasingly using recycled and environmentally friendly materials, such as certified wood or low-impact composites. These alternatives meet the same high standards for thermal insulation and durability as traditional materials.
Trend 2. Subdued Color Palettes
Doors in anthracite and dark grey shades with matte finishes remain popular. They complement modern architecture and are easier to maintain, as scratches and dirt are less noticeable.
Trend 3. Aluminium and High-Strength Plastic as Primary Materials
Aluminium and high-strength plastic dominate the market, offering excellent energy efficiency. Advances in material technology provide consumers with greater freedom to choose alternative materials, such as artistic concrete or ceramic surfaces, without compromising on insulation.
Trend 4. Decorative Strips
Decorative strips or grooves create visual accents. Subtle, narrow lines are particularly effective in breaking up the look of large matte door surfaces.
Trend 5. Glass and Light
Glass elements are used to expand entryways and fill interiors with natural light. These can include glass inserts or full glass door panels.
Trend 6. Digital Technologies
Keyless access systems, cameras, and fingerprint scanners are integrated into door designs, allowing for more streamlined aesthetics without unnecessary components.
Frank Lange, Managing Director of VFF, advises that before choosing an entrance door design, it is essential to consider key aspects such as burglary protection, thermal insulation classes, or accessibility requirements, for example, for elderly users.
