Saint-Gobain Glass has announced the launch of new solar control glasses COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23 and COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23 II. These products combine high light transmission with effective solar heat protection, creating comfortable indoor environments even in buildings with large glazed areas.
The COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23 and 51/23 II glasses offer a light transmission of 51% and a solar factor of only 23%, resulting in a selectivity of 2.22. A selectivity value of around 2.0 or higher is considered high — such glass allows abundant daylight in while significantly reducing heat gain. As a result, interiors remain bright without overheating, and the need for air conditioning decreases. These new products are therefore ideal for façades, glazed roofs, and large curtain walls in commercial, educational, and healthcare buildings.
This effect is achieved thanks to a triple silver coating that acts as a filter: it lets daylight pass through while reflecting infrared radiation that heats the interior. At the same time, the glass retains a neutral colour and low reflectance — an important feature for contemporary architecture with extensive glazing.
The glass is produced on the basis of standard PLANICLEAR® glass, low-iron DIAMANT® or the eco-friendly ORAÉ® glass with a reduced carbon footprint.
The new products replace the previous model COOL-LITE® XTREME 50/22 II. Saint-Gobain notes that they are available worldwide.
Similar product classes are also offered by other glass brands such as AGC, Guardian, and Pilkington.
